HISTORY
History of the Taiwan Paint Industry Association
Founded in 1952, the Association has been renamed three times and has moved premises four times. From the 1960s onwards it steadily built up its testing capability, growing into the national coatings industry body it is today, with permanent premises and its own Research, Development and Testing Laboratory.
1952
The Association was founded on 20 September 1952 under the name Taiwan Region Paint and Varnish Industry Association (台灣區塗料油漆工業同業公會), with its office on Dongyuan Street, Taipei.
1960s
A small testing laboratory was set up during the 1960s and equipped with basic instruments for paint testing.
c. 1970
From the late 1960s to the early 1970s the Association was housed for several years at the company of the then Chairman Mr. Chen (陳紹宗) on Changsha Street Section 2, Taipei.
1974
In 1974 the Association moved to premises it had purchased on Chunghua Road Section 2, Taipei.
1982
In 1982 the Association rented premises to establish a larger Research, Development and Testing Laboratory offering commissioned testing to outside parties; in 1983 it was appointed by the Bureau of Commodity Inspection and Quarantine, MOEA, to carry out inspection of CNS-marked paint products.
1992
On 21 January 1992 the Association was renamed the Taiwan Region Paint Industry Association (台灣區塗料工業同業公會).
1994
In October 1994, funded by NT$13.12 million in member donations and the proceeds from the sale of the old Chunghua Road premises, the Association bought two units at its present location in Tangcheng, Sanchong District, New Taipei City, moving in during April 1995 to establish a permanent office and laboratory.
2000
In January 2000 an adjoining unit was purchased to expand the laboratory and install large-scale testing equipment.
2017
On 7 August 2017 the Association was renamed the Taiwan Paint Industry Association (台灣塗料工業同業公會).
